Welcome
to the College of Nursing
Doctoral Program
Web site.
The site is designed to provide up-to-date
information
about the Doctoral Program, the faculty
who teach in the graduate
program, and their programs of research.
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Doctoral
Program admitted its first students in 1997.
Twenty-two students have
graduated from the program, with the first being in May 2000. Our goal
is to maintain a small admitting class to maintain quality
and individual attention for students and match our faculty
resources.

The College of Nursing has a number of funded faculty
to serve as
student mentors, advisors, and/or
dissertation chairs. Please
click here on "Faculty Researchers" to
explore faculty research interests/projects. For fiscal year
2004-2005, UAMS College of
Nursing was ranked thirty-seventh among all
schools of nursing in funding amounts from
the National Institutes
of Health.
The curriculum for the doctoral program focuses on preparing the
graduate for the advancement of the art and science of nursing
through research and scholarship. Through coursework and
electives, the student can focus his or her role in the area of
nurse scientist, clinician, administrator or educator.
We are frequently asked about opportunities for coursework on the
Internet. Most of our doctoral courses are blended or web-enhanced
so students may attend classes on selected weeks.
There are two entry points into the PhD program: BSN to
PhD and Masters in Nursing to PhD.
